Azpilicueta: "We represent millions of Spaniards, and we have to give our best"

The player from the national team emphasizes the importance of Friday's match against Georgia: "We are facing a final"

With 43 matches as an international player for Spain and over ten years since his debut in the senior team, César Azpilicueta is aware of the role his veteran status and experience play whenever he joins a training camp at the Ciudad del Fútbol.

"It's an honor to be here, and I personally feel the responsibility to stand up, be an example, and fight for a better society. In this regard, I will do my best," the Navarrese defender stated in a press conference on Tuesday, right from the same place where the day before, the captains read the statement agreed upon by the 24 players present in Las Rozas.

On this matter, Azpilicueta wanted to delve deeper, highlighting the difficulty of uniting a single opinion among individuals with different sensitivities, who just a few days ago didn't know they would be called up by the coach. "We've reached an agreement that isn't easy, and we did it as quickly as we could," the footballer emphasized.

Now, the focus of all the international players is on the sporting aspect, aware that "we are not in an easy situation, and the match this Friday against Georgia will be against a very good team that will be tough to beat. We are facing a final."

During the press conference of the Zizur Mayor native, there was some room for a little self-mockery when asked about Lamine Yamal ("the other day I told him that when I made my debut, he hadn't been born yet") and advice for all young athletes starting in the world of football: "They should give their best and make the most of each day because this goes by very quickly," he concluded.
