Barcelona's Spotify Camp Nou latest stop on joint FIFA and 2030 World Cup bid visit
This Thursday, the travelling party, which includes members of the organising committee from the RFEF and technical staff, arrived in Barcelona.
The FC Barcelona facilities were visited this Thursday by the expedition made up of representatives of FIFA and the“Yalla! ¡Vamos!” bid, made up of Morocco, Spain and Portugal, who wish to organise the 2030 World Cup. The group was hosted by the representatives on the bid's panel of directors appointed by the RFEF: María Tato, Jorge Mowinckel and Fernando Sanz. Also in attendance were Juan Fernández Carnicer, on behalf of the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) and representing the Spanish Government; and former Spanish national team coach Vicente del Bosque.
The main objective of the group is to present to FIFA, whose representation is headed by Nicholas Rozenberg, the international body's Director of Business and Strategy, some of the potential host stadiums for the World Cup, which will be held in less than six years' time. However, the visits are also allowing the group made up of representatives of the three football federations and Business Units created specifically for this project to see the facilities in person.
Visit to the building site and other areas
Thursday's visit to the FC Barcelona facilities served to assess first-hand the suitability of the stadium to be one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup, seeing first-hand the details of the Spotify Camp Nou building work and its progress. The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, led the reception accompanied by the club's institutional vice-president, Elena Fort. The Barcelona City Council, led by Sports Councillor David Escudé, and the Catalan Football Federation were also represented.
The tour of the facilities included the recently inaugurated FC Barcelona commercial office, where the model of the future stadium can be seen, and other rooms such as the 1899 Auditorium, where the complete Espai Barça project was presented. There was, of course, also a visit to the see the building works.
Both FC Barcelona and Barcelona City Council wished to express their firm commitment to continue working with the Moroccan, Portuguese and Spanish candidatures with a view to the common objective of hosting the 2030 World Cup and playing an important role in it.
This round of joint visits between the bid and FIFA began on Monday in Portugal, and yesterday, Wednesday, it reached the Basque Autonomous Community, with presentations and tours held in San Mamés (Bilbao) and Anoeta (Donostia-San Sebastián).
