Busquets: "The Supercopa would be extra motivation on this new path"

The Barça captain recalls that there have been many changes at FC Barcelona since they lifted the last champions' trophy

Sergio Busquets gave voice, in the press room, to the desire of the FC Barcelona squad to win, this Sunday, the final of the '23 Supercopa. The midfielder, who celebrated his 700th match wearing the Blaugrana jersey in the semifinal, considered that winning the title would be extra motivation for a team that has not lifted a trophy for a long time (“I think the last one was the Copa del Rey in La Cartuja”, he remembered) and in which, since then, many changes have taken place.

For this reason, with regard to his motivation, and beyond the fact of facing Real Madrid, "which is special" for the Catalans, Busquets focused on other issues: "We must focus on having reached the final, and on being able to win a title after a long time, do it with all the new players who have arrived and the young players who have come up”, he reflected.

To face the decisive match of this Supercopa, Sergio Busquets insisted that they must dominate the areas, keep an eye on Real Madrid's counters and "have a little more control of the game, beyond the individualities that both teams have". "If we are a unit and we are together, it will be much easier," he said.

Much has been said about the hunger for titles for Real Madrid and Barcelona on the eve of this Supercopa final, both by Carlo Ancelotti and by Xavi Hernández. When asked if Barça has greater motivation in this regard, Busquets has been clear: “I think we should all have a lot. We are here to win titles and hopefully that is the case. Beyond hunger, there are many other situations that have an influence, including moments during the game in which the psychological factor is very important”. The midfielder made a wish for this Sunday: "Hopefully we can have all these aspects under control and win this game."
