This coming 11 July marks 15 years since the World Cup in South Africa that took the Spanish national team to the summit of world football. Since then, the nation’s favourite team has proudly donned a star on its shirt, one that shines in every single match and in every single competition. That is why a very special meeting was held on the sidelines of Pitch A at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas.

The current Spain coach, Luis de la Fuente, and the manager who led the country to success in Johannesburg, Vicente del Bosque, shared experiences and, together with them, four of the heroes of that now historic tournament—captain Iker Casillas, defender Joan Capdevila, the scorer of the winning goal in the final, Andrés Iniesta, and striker Fernando Torres—were in called on to announce the 26 players called up for the UEFA Nations League Final Four.

Spain are aiming to retain the title they won two years ago in Rotterdam and, with that goal in mind, the squad will be seeking to beat France in the semi-finals next Thursday 5 June at 21:00 in Stuttgart. On Wednesday 4 June, the other semi-final between Germany and Portugal will take place in Munich. The final of the UEFA Nations League will be held in Munich on Sunday 8 June at 21:00, while the third-fourth place playoff is to take place on the same date in the city of Stuttgart starting at 15:00.
