Claudia Zornoza pursues a dream during the World Cup
"A person can have everything stolen from them, except for one thing: the choice of their own path". The reflections of Austrian psychiatrist Viktor Emil Frankl during his time in a concentration camp, titled "Man's Search for Meaning," are what Claudia Zornoza is reading these days during the Spanish team's World Cup training camp in New Zealand.
The Madrid native is thus enjoying, just a few months shy of turning 33, her first major international tournament with the national team as a reward for an exemplary sports career characterized by hard work and constant improvement.
"I never imagined being here," explains Zornoza, "because my dreams have always been short-term, and this has come suddenly. Being here is a source of pride for me and my family, so I plan to enjoy it to the fullest." Undoubtedly, the international midfielder is doing just that, with hopes of finding her future wearing a uniform.
For over two years, Claudia has been preparing for the municipal police exams and takes advantage of the free time during the training camp to continue studying. "I would like to specialize in environmental or canine protection, and it helps me clear my mind when I'm not on the pitch. I may be progressing a bit slower than usual, but I know it's a long journey."
This serves as an additional motivation for this fighter who has earned recognition with her call-up after overcoming a significant injury during the season, now aspiring along with her teammates to the dream of the World Cup.
