De la Fuente: "I'm looking forward to the first touch"
95 days after being presented as a national coach, Luis de la Fuente will present tomorrow at 11.30 am his first list as national coach through the official channels of the Spanish Football Federation. Ahead of one of the most special days of his career, de la Fuente says: "I'm looking forward to the first touch, meeting with players I haven't had the chance to work with for years".
Luis de la Fuente talks about his philosophy
The national coach describes himself as a "defender of the idea and the style of play of the Spanish national football team", which he has been working on for ten years. During this time, as he says, "there has been a clear and determined style of play that has made us strong and great, but I also want to give it slight nuances, a personal touch," he continues.
His key word: TEAM
He has been European Under-21 and Under-19 champion, silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympics and gold medallist at the Mediterranean Games. He has learned from his personal experience that "the big competitions we have been lucky to win in the past we won them as a team". He knows better than anyone that "there is a lot of individual talent in our football and the guarantee of success is to put that talent, which is fantastic, at the service of the team, that we all work in one direction, in the same direction".
His first list will be used for the national team's matches on Saturday, 25th March in Malaga against Norway (La Rosaleda stadium) and on Tuesday 28th March in Glasgow against Scotland. Both are qualifiers for the UEFA Euro 2024, which will be held in Germany.
