De la Fuente: "It's a great call-up, with guarantees."
Luis de la Fuente has discussed his list of called-up players for the official matches, which are crucial for Euro 2024 qualification and will be held in Georgia and Granada against Cyprus. The coach has opted for a list with some newcomers, including Lamine Yamal ("a fantastic player," he said) and Álex Baena, who could make his debut with the national team, while Álex Ruiz makes his return.
"I believe it's a great call-up, with highly competitive players who are a guarantee," stated Luis de la Fuente, looking ahead to two matches for which he has once again expressed confidence in the team, as is customary. The coach didn't want to dwell on the absences, saying, "I always ask the players not to give up and to keep working" to earn future call-ups, responding to questions from the reporters.
He extended the same request to the Spanish fans when asked about the atmosphere expected in Granada. De la Fuente showed his confidence in receiving "full support" from the stands at the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium.

De la Fuente didn't shy away from the goalkeeper debate. When asked if Kepa's new situation could change things, the coach emphasized, "It's not easy to make a list of goalkeepers, but the more difficulties I have in selecting a lineup, the better." He continued, "All three (Unai Simón, Kepa, and David Raya) are great professionals and great individuals, and I'm very confident in them."

"I don't look at the origin but at the footballer and what will give me the best performance," he said about Joselu, adding that he's a player who not only contributes but also helps his teammates perform better.
The coach also wanted to send a loving message to Jordi Alba in the week he announced the end of his international career: "He leaves behind a great legacy," emphasized De la Fuente.
