Sestao River mount a comeback to seal their place in the second round draw

The green and black outfit needed extra time to overcome a combative Gimnástica Segoviana at the Estadio de La Albuera.

The Bizkaia side kept on believing until the end and overcame going behind in in the match and an agonising equaliser from the Segovian side, who were unable make home advantage count in the cup.

Gimnástica Segoviana came out on the La Albuera pitch with extra motivation in search of the dream of reaching the next round in front of their home fans. Such was the Segovian side's quality in attack at the start of the game that, in the 12th minute, they took the lead thanks to a goal from Juan Silva. However, Sestao River were able to bounce back before the end of the first half and equalised through Leandro Martínez in the 38th minute.

The break came at the perfect time for the Biscayan side, and after the restart, Jon Cabo (53') and Álvaro Gete (73') gave them a comfortable two goal lead. Two goals that, far from being an insurmountable obstacle, kicked the Segovians into life. Gimnástica Segoviana searched for the goal that would allow them to dream of a comeback, but they did not find it until stoppage time, when Hugo Díaz gave the home side reason to dream in the 93rd minute and turned the Municipal de La Albuera into a cauldron of passion. Such was the Gimnástica's barrage that, in the 97th minute, Abel Pascual made the most of a good pass from Rubén Yubero to level the match and send it into extra time.

The green and blacks again came out the better in the first part of extra time and took the lead again through Jon Cobo, who took advantage of a ball served up on a plate by Aitor Aranzabe to bring joy back to the visitors’ faces. The scoreboard would not change again and Sestao River would book their place in the second round of the Copa del Rey.

That is how the Bizkaia side joined the 54 teams that have already qualified for the next round of the Cup competition. Only one tie remains to be decided, the one between Atzeneta and Real Zaragoza next Tuesday, 14 November, at 20:00 at the Municipal El Regit. The draw for the second round will be held on Wednesday, 15 November at 13:00 in the Luis Aragonés hall at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas.
