Englishman Michael Oliver to referee Spain - Croatia

Fellow British match official, Stuart Attwell, to take charge of VAR.

England's Michael Oliver is the referee appointed by UEFA to officiate Spain's European Championships opener against Croatia in Berlin this Saturday (18:00).

The Briton is 39 years old and this is his second European Championships, having refereed Spain's penalty shoot-out win over Switzerland in the quarter-finals of the 2020 edition. He has refereed the national team five times, most recently in the friendly against Colombia at Wembley in March.

Michael Oliver was born in the British town of Ashington and has been a UEFA Elite referee since 2018. The VAR will be manned by another Briton, referee Stuart Attwell.
