Eusebio Sacristán: The legend is back at his best

Three years ago, at the end of 2020, sadly, normal life came to a sudden stop for Eusebio Sacristán Mena, whose unfortunate fall while walking down the street led to him going into a coma and losing his ability to communicate due to the brain damage he suffered.

"Little by little I have been recovering, joy has returned to my body and I am still in the recovery process", says the fifteen-time capped Spain international footballer, European Under-21 champion and now a prestigious coach, winemaker and head of a charitable foundation that bears his name.

This Sunday, the player from Valladolid was one of the main protagonists at the event organised by “Leyendas España”, in the presence of the president of the RFEF Management Commission, Pedro Rocha, he and the organisation handed out the shirts to former internationals from the Castilian-Leonese clubs with the chronological numbers of the international players in terms of the order they first won their first cap from the Castilian-Leonese clubs.

Eusebio underlined the importance of these events as "an opportunity to see each other again and to remember our career paths. All of us who have been honoured fulfilled our childhood dream of becoming footballers. We will always remember the special moments spent in the national team shirt".

In the case of the ex-player La Seca, it is also a round number, as he was, in 1986, the 500th player to make his debut for Spain. A figure that this Sunday, if Álex Remiro makes his debut against Georgia, will rise to 850 players who have worn the famous red shirt of the Spain team of all throughout its century long history.
