19 February 2024 will always be a very special day for Vicky López. The player from Madrid joined up with the rest of the squad and enjoyed her first day as a senior international. Whatsmore, she has done so at a training camp with a title and qualification for the Olympic Games at stake.

Vicky López arrived at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas surrounded by her FC Barcelona teammates and escorted at all times by her inseparable pal Salma Paralluelo. "For me Salma is like a big sister," said Vicky López of her club and national team-mate.

The young midfielder admitted to having been nervous all morning before she arrived, but insisted she was "very happy to be here".

Vicky, a second year college age student, got the news of the call up from the national team coach while she was studying for an exam she had to take one Thursday afternoon: "I received a lot of calls while I was studying and that's when I found out that I was going to be called up to the senior national team". In case one was wondering, the exam went "quite well".

In short, nerves and excitement are overriding emotions of anyone’s first day. But today, it was Vicky López's turn to make her first appearance with the Spanish senior team
