The Madrid-Geneva flight landed shortly after seven in the evening, carrying a squad full of hopes and with a dream to fulfil: to win the European Championships.

The journey was made up of an almost two-hour flight and forty minutes by road to reach Lausanne, where the national team base camp for the tournament is.

Upon arrival at the hotel, the squad was welcomed by a large number of fans and passionate locals who had been waiting for Montse Tomé’s team to offer them a warm reception, complete with lots of National Team shirts, plenty of cheers for all the players, Spanish flags, and live music.

Spain were also welcomed on the hotel’s entrance steps by numerous local dignitaries, headed by the Vice-Mayor of Lausanne, Émilie Moeschler, Town councillor, Xavier Company, and the State Councillor of the Canton of Vaud, Nuria Gorrite. Also greeting the expedition party were the Spanish Ambassador, María Celsa Nuño García; the President of the Women’s Football Committee of the Canton of Vaud, Beatriz Pérez; and from the Lausanne Olympic Capital Foundation, its Director, Sébastien Griesmar, and the International Sports Delegate, Cosima Deluermoz.

Among the large welcoming party were also the Directors of the Sports Department, Myriam Pasche; of Communications, Yann Rod; of Sporting Events, Patrice Schaub; of Sports Facilities, Olivier Pittet; and the Project Director, Elisa Marclay.

Following an emotional welcome, the National Team will now settle down in what is set to be their home in Switzerland during the championships. Tomorrow, they will hold an open training session for all local fans who wish to come along and share in the excitement of the Spain squad’s first session on Swiss soil. The training will be broadcast live on the RFEF’s official channels at 10:30 a.m. from the Juan Antonio Samaranch Stadium, a UEFA endorsed high-performance facility located near their hotel with stunning views over Lake Geneva.
