The Saudi Arabian Minister of Sport and Youth, Abdulaziz Almasaed, presented FC Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong with the POTM award that recognises him as the outstanding player in the second semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup.

The Dutch player played a pivotal role for his team throughout the match against CA Osasuna, which saw Xavi Hernandez's side qualify for the final of the tournament.

De Jong's great performance against the side from Navarra helped reigning Spanish Super Cup champions FC Barcelona get through to Sunday’s final, where they will face old foe Real Madrid with the trophy at stake.

His pinpoint passing, quick progression of play and ability to link up with the likes of Ilkay Gündogan and Joao Felix made Frenkie de Jong more than deserving of the award after his performance helped his team continue on their quest for their first major title of the year.

At the post-match press conference, Frenkie de Jong was optimistic ahead of Sunday's final against Real Madrid. "It's a game between two top-level teams; you can never say before the game whether you can win or not, but we do have a chance," he said.

The POTM in the second semi-final of the Supercopa 2024 also appreciated the support received from the stands: "It helps us a lot, it gives us a lot of joy, and I hope that in the final there will also be a lot of Barça fans," he said, before saying goodbye to the media.
