Irene Paredes: captain, champion and centurion

The player has reached the milestone of a century of international caps, scoring eleven goals and winning a world championship in the famous Spanish colours along the way.

Captain, champion and centurion . In that order, Irene Paredes has gone through a series of moments with the Spanish national football team. From her debut in 2011 against Romania as a scarcely known youth player, she has become a massive symbol of the national team by giving her best match after match and establishing herself as one of the best players in the world.

She made her goalscoring debut in 2013 in a 6-0 win over Estonia and has now scored eleven goals in the renowned Spanish red. This is an incredibly impressive tally for a player who usually plays as a defender. As well as an impressive goal record, she joins the 100-caps club, where she is in esteemed company with Alexia Putellas and Jenni Hermoso.

Irene Paredes has been a leader over the years, wearing the captain's armband for much of her career, although undoubtedly one of the most special moments of her life came a few months ago when she lifted the World Cup winner's trophy into the sky, writing the history of women's football in Spain. Irene has reached 100 caps for the national team, but there’s still a lot more matches and successes to come before her story in red comes to an end.
