Jorge Vilda: "The team will bounce back against Switzerland"
Acknowledging Japan: "Congratulations to Japan. They were better and we made defensive errors and mistakes in attack. They were very clinical and I take responsibility for the defeat. The team will be more united than ever and will turn this frustration into a desire to compete.
On the mistakes: "We didn't know how to get between the lines, even though we started well. Little by little, after the goals, we played more and more with the handbrake on and couldn't find a way through their defensive lines. We have to turn this around and I'm sure that against Switzerland the team will bounce back”.
On how to Improve: "We need to improve our defensive awareness, our positioning and our teamwork at the back. They got in behind us on too many occasions. We were shaky both in attack and defence.
On hopes for the future: "The cohesion wasn't good. At the start of the second half we came out a little better, but then the fourth goal was the final nail. I'm sure that the team will react and I'm still very excited about what this group can do".
On the substitutions: "We tried to make changes to add some more width, but they closed down the spaces well. We didn't manage to change the play in we wanted with our substitutions".
"This is a something we’ll get over with professionalism, pride, with love for this sport and for our country. These are more than enough reasons for us to give it our all.
On the second half: "There was a slight reaction in the second half, but we had a team camped deep in front of us. We need to learn from this and react. The defeat hurts a lot and we're going to get it out of our system by competing better against Switzerland.
On the game plan: "At half-time I tried to correct the mistakes we had made. We wanted to shield the defence better, to work better as a team and to put more pressure on their centre-backs.
On the attacking play: "We weren't accurate in our pressing or in the second phases of play. They played with a low block and the three goals in the first half were too much of an obstacle to overcome. We have to recover and be more unified than ever".
Lessons: "We're not used to defeats like this. Whether it helps us go into the last 16 better prepared is something we'll see in the coming days".
The key to success: "We have to keep our chins up, using professionalism, pride, love for this sport and for our country. These are more than enough reasons for us to give it our all.
On link up play: "We passed the ball square too much, with too many safe passes. We'll try not to do the same in the next game.
