Jorge Vilda: "These players will go down in history forever"

The national coach is delighted with Spain's World Cup triumph on Sunday: "This title will mark the point when women’s football will really take off in our country”

The key to success: "The match against Japan was the turning point. The team's mentality has changed since then and that was one of the reasons why we lifted the trophy.

Giving it all: "After everything we've been through to become world champions, we won’t take this success for granted. On a sporting level, we have achieved things we have never achieved before. It's very difficult to improve on the fact that in the same season we've been world champions in all three age categories. It gives me huge satisfaction as a coach and as a sporting director.

On the present: "It's time to celebrate and be happy. We want to share what everyone is feeling back home in Spain and I'm not thinking beyond that.

On the future: The development of women’s football has already been going very well, but with this there will be an explosion just like there has been in other countries that have won major trophies.

On recognition: "We are at the pinnacle of world football and that is what Luis Rubiales asked of me five years ago. We asked him for the right conditions for everyone and we were never refused anything we asked for. It is very difficult to improve on what we have achieved.

Going forward: "The victories have not been the fruit of one year´s work and we should have been a little more patient in some areas. In Spain we have football in our DNA and we have been working for fifteen years with the same playing style. It is the work of many people over many years.

On the team: "The players we have believe in our essence and our style. They have been extraordinary. Among the coaching staff, we've doubled down since the match against the Japanese and we've pushed them harder than ever.

"I think the best team of all won the World Cup".

On the impact: "We have managed to get a country out on the streets and now we want the whole of Spain to celebrate. These players are part of our history forever".

On the RFEF: "The support of the RFEF and the president Luis Rubiales has been essential from the beginning. It has been a tough year in terms of management but it has helped us all to come out stronger".

On team cohesion: "We were a national team of individual players that has quickly become a team and a family of great players on the pitch".

Gratitude: "I feel immense happiness for having made millions of people happy. I am proud of my players, of all of them. I am very satisfied with the support I have received.

Jenni: "She and all the players deserve a lot of credit for what has happened, but I've known her for 15 years and she's special. I'm very happy for her.

On returning to Spain: "I'm looking forward to going home as soon as possible and celebrating with everyone. It's going to be a great party.

On the team spirit: "We have to believe in this sport, in women. We have enjoyed a first-class show and if we can be an example for any country, we would be delighted.

On the final: "The game plan against England was to be prepared against the two systems they usually use. We knew they were going to match us up in the middle of the park, but defensively we had to be very switched on, especially to long balls. The team showed that they knew how to suffer when necessary, although they didn't create any great chances against us either. The players showed great mental strength.

On deserving the victory: "Spain have played better football than our opponents in every game, but in the past when it was like that we sometimes didn't get the results. I think the best team won the World Cup.
