Laia Aleixandri establishes herself in Montse Tomé's plans

The Manchester City player has become a valuable asset for the national team due to the quality of her performance and versatility.

At the age of 23, Laia Aleixandri already has 25 international caps to her name. Since her debut against Cameroon on 17 May 2019, the Catalan player has been growing in importance and has become the most called upon player since the appointment of Montse Tomé as national team coach.

Laia says she is "happy and feeling the confidence" of the coaching staff. She started every game of the UEFA Women's Nations League that Spain won at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, including the semi-final and the final.

Among her many virtues is her versatility. The number '14' has played iin three different positions for both the national team and her club. In fact, Laia Aleixandri is able to adapt and perform at the highest level in all four positions at the back and also as a deep-lying midfielder: "The centre-back position is where I feel most comfortable, but I try to help the team wherever they need me".

Spain have been incredibly strong at the back in recent times. In fact, they have not conceded a single goal in the last three game, scoring 12 themselves along the way. For Laia, the success lies in the team: "We set ourselves the goal of winning and doing it our way: playing in attack and defending with the ball".
