Lamine Yamal: "I want to win everything possible with Spain"

The very young forward is experiencing his first hours with the senior team, determined to bring "joy, verticality, and flair."

At just 16 years old, Lamine Yamal is living his first moments with the senior national team, a player who is growing at the speed of light. He is undoubtedly one of the standout sensations of this early season, and his remarkable performances at FC Barcelona have earned him a spot in Luis de la Fuente's squad for Spain's upcoming matches in September (against Georgia in Tbilisi on Friday the 8th and against Cyprus in Granada on Tuesday the 12th). "It's incredible to be experiencing this; I want to enjoy it to the fullest," confesses the attacker with a timid smile. "I'm calm; I'm already used to Barcelona, so let's see how everything goes."

As soon as his name was mentioned among the 24 called up, Lamine Yamal contacted his mother, the first to celebrate the great news and the first to give him the advice any mother would give to a 16-year-old boy. "She tells me to be careful; it scares her a bit. But after 30 seconds, she calms down and is very proud of me." The winger is accustomed to facing much more experienced players, which understandably concerns his mother: "I've been playing against much older players since I was in the youth team. She tells me to watch out for fouls and such things. But I tell her to relax and trust me."

He certainly has remarkable confidence, always willing to listen to the advice of his teammates. "I always talk to Balde, and he tells me to enjoy myself, not to be afraid, to take on challenges. Gavi says the same, not to be afraid. And Pedri as well, they help me a lot," he explains before revealing what he can bring to this team: "Youth and joy. And on the field, speed and flair."

He grew up with a football always nearby and looked up to someone with whom he will share experiences these days. "They are all incredible. But especially when Asensio started, I liked him a lot." However, he says he won't reveal that to him yet; he's still too shy.

This is the story of Lamine Yamal, a beautiful story that is moving at lightning speed, a prodigious player who has had a clear dream since he first set foot in Las Rozas: "I've always played for Spain, since the under-15s. I've always been clear about it; I want to play for Spain. Win a European Championship, a World Cup, and everything possible."
