After announcing his 26-player squad to represent Spain in the first two matches of the year 2024, Luis de la Fuente appeared at a press conference to assess his group of players, explaining that the presence or absence of certain players is simply down to "their desire to be in the National Team without any demands."

The coach underlined that "we have to value the great work that is done at youth team level where they find and develop players, and the results are there for all to see".

The presence of Pau Cubarsí in the squad earned words of praise from the coach from La Rioja, as he is someone "we knew all about him from the youth teams and we are not surprised by his great performances. He has great potential. Our only interest is sporting and, in his case, he is a great asset for the present and the future".

Luis de la Fuente is still in contact with injured players such as Pedri, explaining "I think it is important to have contact with the players during difficult moments. We will always wait for him and we hope he recovers soon. He's going to bring a lot of joy to Spanish football".

With exactly three months to go before Spain's first match at the European Championships in Germany, the coach believes that ahead of the continental showpiece tournament, "we have to consider all eventualities, make contingencies and keep a close eye on the players, because it is becoming increasingly common to see young players performing at the highest level," he concluded.
