Proud of his players, but still ever-critical in order to push the team's continuous improvement. That was the verdict of Luis de la Fuente after Spain's qualification for the quarter-finals of the European Championships.

The comeback win against Georgia was looked back on by the coach, saying that in the match "we suffered because of the uncertainty of the scoreline at times, we knew it wasn't going to be a walk in the park. They are specialists on the counter and we knew that".

The coach from La Rioja said, "Georgia are a very good opponent, who defend and attack very well, so I want to stress the importance of today's victory".

That's why he thinks that "this situation makes us even stronger. We have to understand that our opponents are very good and we have to be prepared for these circumstances".

Such circumstances may well arise in the next tie against the hosts, the first of what he calls " three matches that we would like to play in and which will be very complicated. A team shows that it is a good team when it has to row against the current, and today we have done it".

Among the standout performers in the team, De la Fuente highlighted Rodrigo, who was named player of the match, while reiterating his conviction that "we have the best team in the whole of the European Championships. We are very ambitious, we are short term in our demands, we are convinced that this is the way forward and we continue to make progress in the tournament", he added.
