Luis de la Fuente appeared in the press room at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López in Tenerife after Spain 's hard-fought 3-2 win over Switzerland. The national team coach began the press conference by stressing how happy he was with the win: ‘I'm proud to be Spanish, to have a fan base like the one in Tenerife and to experience the national team the way we are experiencing it. I am extremely proud of the players, they are insatiable. They always want to improve and grow. They are an example of generosity. I am proud to lead a national team like ours.

‘We needed and wanted to finish the year with a win, which only goes to add to all the good things we have done during the year. When you get used to winning, it's hard not to. These players always want to win. You have to see how they train, what their day-to-day lives are like. The Tenerife fans also deserved to experience a victory for the national team. We are happy about it’, reflected the coach.

When asked about himself and his work until the next international window in March, de la Fuente confessed that: ‘There is a lot of work to do, we have to keep working, keep watching the players. This monitoring means we travel a lot. We enjoy it, we are happy doing our job, we feel privileged with this work.

‘Morata's gesture was one of absolute generosity,’ the coach praised the Spain captain for the gesture he made to Pedri by giving him the penalty kick. ‘Pedri's performance was fantastic,’ he concluded.

On next Friday's draw for the quarter-finals of the Nations League, Luis de la Fuente: ‘They are powerful teams, it's a very tough competition, demanding and we have to value it. It's not a second-tier championship. We don't care who our opponents are. I would love to play a competition in our country with the fans behind us.

‘We have a magnificent present and a wonderful future. The players never fail and the Canarian fans have been incredible,’ concluded the national coach.
