Luis de la Fuente began the press conference by sending words of encouragement to Dani Carvajal, who underwent surgery this morning. The coach expressed his support for him ahead of the match against Denmark.

Regarding Álvaro Morata’s return, after missing the previous window due to injury, the coach admitted: “Álvaro is admirable, a great person, a fantastic captain, and everything is easier when you have support and a family, like this national team.”

On the subject of injuries, the national coach said: “These are part of football and the worst aspect of sport. For those who get the chance to play now, it’s a great opportunity, and they need to take advantage of it. There are many players who can now show their full potential.” He emphasised that “Spain has very good footballers, and those in this squad will perform at their best.”

When asked about Zubimendi, De la Fuente said: “Zubimendi has more than enough quality for these types of matches. He exudes confidence in every aspect. He never gets nervous; he’s a very mature and calm player. He’s a safe bet, he never lets you down.”

Reflecting on mental health matters, the coach said: “Nowadays, there’s more information and we’re more aware of it. In the past, we didn’t give it the attention it deserves. Fortunately, things have changed, and we now have the opportunity to help people who are going through tough times. I’ve always been told that elite sport is unhealthy, but we have to learn to cope. You have to be strong to overcome such situations and ask for help.”

“We talk a lot with Lamine Yamal, he’s very young,” said Luis de la Fuente, reflecting on the minutes played for clubs and the national team.

On his Ballon d’Or nomination, the national coach stated: “I’m already a winner. I’m incredibly excited to be nominated, and that alone is a success. I’ve already won.”

“Tomorrow’s match is crucially important. We’re up against a great team, with young players performing brilliantly, as well as some experienced professionals. We need to show our best version; we want to be top of the group,” he said, reflecting on the third matchday of the Nations League.
