Luis Rubiales and the RFEF pay tribute to the three-time European champions

The Spanish women's national team was welcomed in the Luis Aragonés auditorium after their victory in Hungary.

The European futsal champions trophy is already at home. The Luis Aragonés assembly hall was the scene of the tribute, this Tuesday, to the recipients of this new success for Spanish women's futsal. The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, thanked the champions for their work. "It's a beastly, spectacular team. You are the best women's futsal team in history. From the RFEF we are going to work to compete in the World Cup. I am thrilled.

The president praised the work of everyone from the grassroots level: "We must thank the work of the presidents who have been in the Futsal Committee, and those of the regional committees, who are the ones who support the players when they are small. Five years ago there were 40 players with P license and now it has multiplied by five. There are 2.5 million euros of investment, with selections in all categories from U-15 upwards".

He also had a special memory for Anita Luján, who was unable to play in Hungary due to injury: "Anita is not only the captain, she is much more. She helped us a lot to change women's futsal". The next challenge for this national team could be the World Cup. "We have to talk to FIFA to do it soon and as long as Claudia counts on me, I'll be there," said Peque, the captain in this European Championship.

For her part, the coach, Clàudia Pons, said: "Women's futsal needs this, I am excited to see this and see that they are excited. It is important that when people watch futsal and national team matches they get excited. I hope this is the beginning of a great process. Although it may seem easy, it's not, it's not easy to prepare so quickly for another".

Reception at the Consejo Superior de Deportes

Afterwards, the champions visited the Consejo Superior de Deportes, where Luis Rubiales thanked the reception: "We know what equality means in this house. Thank you for receiving us and thank you for supporting this team. They are very good and with Clàudia Pons we got it right on and off the court. It will not be the last time we come".

The coach said: "This reception is very important for us, thank you for making us feel special and for bringing us to the home of sport. The important thing is everything you have achieved, that no one ever tells you that you can't do something".

The ceremony was closed by José Manuel Franco, president of the Consejo Superior de Deportes, and Secretary of State for Sport. "This visit is a promise fulfilled. It is a small part of what you deserve, you deserve this and much more. Spanish sport owes you a lot. We must congratulate you and thank you for everything you do in sport and in other areas, for the values you defend in society. You are an example in sport and in society. Spain is proud to have athletes like you. You have made us feel very proud".
