Luis Rubiales presents the 1937 Republic Cup to Levante UD

Vicente Iborra, captain of the Granota team, received the trophy on the Ciudad de Valencia pitch from the president of the RFEF.

The president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, this Friday presented Levante UD with the trophy of the Copa Presidente de la República-Copa de la España Libre de 1937, which accredits them as champions. Last Saturday, in Malaga, the board of directors of the Federation, at the proposal of president Rubiales, agreed to make the competition official and thus reward the club, which has prepared a big party for the occasion, also wearing a special blue and white shirt that recalled the uniform that was used for that conquest.

In the run-up to the Second Division match between Levante UD and Real Zaragoza, Luis Rubiales, on the Ciudad de Valencia pitch, presented the trophy to Vicente Iborra, Levante's captain, and the azulgrana players, with president Quico Catalán, celebrated amidst applause and cheers from the stands.

Relatives of the players of the legendary team awarded as Ernesto Calpe, Agustín Dolz Martínez-Catalán, Juan Puig and Jesús Nieto were present at the emotional ceremony, which was also attended by Levante legends and captains (Salvador Mut, Jorge Barrie, Vicente Latorre and Sergio Ballesteros) to add luster to a night that will remain engraved in the memory of the granotas. Salvador Gomar, president of the Football Federation of the Valencian Community, was also on the pitch of the Ciudad de Valencia.

The Copa Presidente de la República-Copa de la España Libre was played in Barcelona on July 18, 1937 between the teams of Valencia and Levante Football Club, with the latter winning (1-0). After requesting the recognition, and once granted by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the trophy is now on display in the Levante Football Club's museum.
