Luis Rubiales, re-elected and strengthened within UEFA

He will remain on the Executive Committee for four more years, assuming more responsibility, and Ceferin grants the RFEF the organization of the Ordinary Congress in 2024.

Luis Rubiales emerged strengthened from the 47th Ordinary Congress held this Wednesday in Lisbon. The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation has been re-elected, with almost 80% of the votes, as a member of the Executive Committee of the highest continental body and, after reorganizing the governing team, he now assumes more responsibility within the board of Aleksander Ceferin, who extends his mandate until 2027.

Rubiales became a member of the Executive Committee in 2019 and will remain on that body until at least 2027. Like the rest of the candidates, the RFEF president was subjected to an eligibility check by UEFA, which he passed with flying colors, always counting on the support of the body and president Ceferin.

Moreover, Luis Rubiales, who already held the position of vice-president and became the second longest-serving vice-president, assumes an even more important role within the current management team. Ceferin maintains the Swedish Karl-Erik Nilsson as first vice-president and the RFEF president will have more representation and presence, committed to the good management of European football from all areas.

The UEFA Ordinary Congress 2024, in Madrid

Proof of this confidence is the fact that UEFA has decided this Wednesday that its 48th Ordinary Congress will be held next February 8, 2024 in Spain. Madrid will host this important event.

The decision is a recognition of the federation's work and the management of the current governing team. This annual summit brings together the leaders of all the continent's federations and addresses issues of the utmost importance for the proper development of football in all areas.

Rubiales: "It is an honor and a responsibility. I assume this privilege with humility and commitment".

Aleksander Ceferin has always counted on the RFEF and Luis Rubiales in all his projects, being the great supporter of the joint bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. This excellent professional relationship translates into Rubiales being granted more representation for the new mandate. "It is an honor and a great responsibility to be with Aleksander Ceferin and his team for the next four years and to have the massive support of European football," said Luis Rubiales from Lisbon. "I assume this privilege with humility and commitment."
