María Méndez and the goal that her family enjoyed

The Spanish national team defender scored the equaliser that got the comeback against the Czech Republic started in Burgos.

Not even a day has passed since the national team finished their thrilling second match of qualifying for Euro 2025. The Czech Republic made it 1-0 in the 56th minute and silenced the home stands at the Estadio Municipal El Plantío, something difficult to do with a stadium packed to the rafters. Just two minutes after that moment of doubt and uncertainty, María Méndez stepped up and, with a powerful header, lifted the crowd out of their seats once again.

It was the the Asturian’s second goal for Spain, but the most special because her family was in the stadium watching on, "I looked at them and I think they were moved". A goal that brought us level in the game and started the comeback for Spain to win 3-1 and take the victory.

"I'm very happy, and feeling maximum euphoria, I'm going crazy with happiness," confessed María Méndez. It was a special goal that she dedicated to her family and one that helped the Spanish national team to keep their winning streak going.
