Offensive exhibition from the team led by Jorge Vilda in Denmark on the eve of their journey to New Zealand
Thu, 06/07/2023 - 10:16

Just over two weeks away from their World Cup debut, the Women's National Team has climbed another step on their path to excellence, achieving their first away victory in history against powerful Denmark, one of the top thirteen national teams on the planet.

From the start, Spain made over half of their starting lineup changes compared to the team that thrashed Panama six days ago in Asturias, and as soon as the referee's whistle blew, Jorge Vilda's team came out determined to win the match.

With a solid defense, combinative play in midfield thanks to the Abelleira-Bonmatí duo, swift appearances from the fullbacks overlapping the wingers, and the skill of Alexia and Jenni, chances kept coming from the beginning, with the ball moving at high speed on Danish soil.

Salma Paralluelo had the first great opportunity, denied by Christensen, who could do little against the powerful shot that Ona Batlle took to open the scoring and add to the Catalan player's goal tally with the team.

The two goals in the opening minutes of each half have determined a clash in which the National Team has achieved their first away victory against the formidable Denmark.

Denmark seemed powerless against the offensive exhibition from the Spanish players, who continued to collect opportunities in front of the opposing goal, including a left-footed strike from Alexia that hit the Nordic post.

Sondergaard's team reacted in the final stretch of the first half, with Pernille Harder getting more involved and the local team showing strength from set pieces, but they were well intercepted by our internationals, including a confident Misa Rodríguez in goal.

Iberian dominance resumed after the break, with Jenni delivering an epic pass to Alexia as a warning for the second and definitive goal, which was scored by Salma Paralluelo in a spectacular display of power, quality, movement off the ball, and composure against the Danish goalkeeper.

Up to six more players participated with Spain in the preparatory match, including forward Esther González, who struck the post once again after regaining possession through offensive pressure.

It was another display of the colossal intensity shown by Jorge Vilda's team, which will set course for New Zealand on Thursday with two overwhelming victories in respective preparatory matches and suitcases filled with World Cup enthusiasm: the moment of truth is approaching with unbeatable sensations.
