In front of a crowd of devoted fans and with some notable absentees on the pitch, Spain secured a vital win against Denmark to move to the top of their group with seven points. Luis de la Fuente's team had truly deserved the win, as they were able to hold their nerve, did not despair and found their reward of a goal in the 79th minute.

In a packed out and raucous Enrique Roca stadium in Murcia, the European champions once again demonstrated many of the virtues that took them to the top this past summer in Germany. Despite Denmark being a tough opponent, who knew how to pose a threat on the counter and had goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in top form, Spain managed to secure an impressive win thanks to a goal from Martin Zubimendi, who scored a great shot from outside the box after a rebound from the Danish defence.

Throughout the ninety minutes, Spain showed the makings of champions, never looked troubled at the back and were able to up the tempo in the second half in search of the winning goal. In an exercise of precision and patience, each player was on top of their game in their various roles. Lamine Yamal and Oyarzabal opened up the field, Fabián was dominating the middle and the two full-backs, Pedro Porro and Grimaldo, were pushing on more and more as the game went on.

Spain always played with the knowledge that the game was going as they planned and that the winning goal would come. Luis de la Fuente's team is cool-minded, solid and efficient. No player is spared when it comes to putting in the effort, each one understands his teammates to perfection and that all ends up translating into good football, goals and victories.

The national team has now accumulated seven points from a possible nine, is top of the group ahead of Denmark, who have six and, with things as they are, next Tuesday in Cordoba and against Serbia could already secure their ticket to the quarter-finals, with two matches to go until the end of this first phase of the competition. These are the days.
