"Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up." On Saturday, Spain took its women's football to a new dimension, placing the National Team in the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time.

The same week that started with a heavy defeat against Japan ends with the achievement of a historic milestone that the national team had been fighting for decades.

A packed Eden Park stadium in Auckland witnessed a feat accomplished through overwhelming football displayed by a group of players with as much ambition as determination.

From the beginning, coach Jorge Vilda made several changes to the starting lineup, introducing five new players, but without altering the system or the dominant spirit of a squad that set out to attack from the initial whistle.

Supported by ball possession, fluid circulation, and constant attacks from the wings, the chances began to flow early in the match. At the five-minute mark, a masterful strike from Aitana Bonmatí, named the match's best player, resulted in the first goal after a shot by the incisive Alba Redondo hit the post.

Spain's next challenge in the quarterfinals, set for next Friday in Wellington, will be against either the Netherlands or South Africa.

Shortly after, a setback in the form of an own goal by Laia Codina was quickly countered by a header from Alba Redondo and another remarkable action from Aitana Bonmatí inside the box, extending Spain's lead on the scoreboard.

The Swiss goalkeeper multiplied her efforts, but the whirlwind of play continued until halftime when Laia Codina from Girona redeemed herself with another goal full of determination and courage in her World Cup debut.

The first half ended with Switzerland trying to react after the break, making a triple substitution that would not substantially change the course of the match.

Jorge Vilda also made changes from the bench, showing once again that in this Spain, all the players are an important part of a memorable success, culminating with another goal from Jennifer Hermoso, who continues her legendary performance in Auckland.

The final score was an indisputable 1-5, and now, in the quarterfinals next Friday in Wellington, Spain will face either the Netherlands or South Africa. This historic team aims to become eternal in the tournament.
