Montse Tomé: "A lot of effort and hard work is behind our World Cup success"

Montse Tomé has looked back at a historic year for the Spanish national team. In 2023, the national team won the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, qualified for the Final Four of the UEFA Nations League and reached the top spot in the FIFA Rankings. All reasons why the national team coach can safely say that "It has been a great year".

Montse stressed the importance of winning the World Cup. "The title won at the World Cup is the greatest possible achievement for the national team". She also stressed all the work that went into winning this trophy: "A lot of effort and hard work is behind our World Cup success".

The year 2024 is sure to be full of challenges, such as competing in the final of the UEFA Nations League and striving to secure a ticket to the Olympic Games. "We're going all out for success and setting our sights high. It's exciting and a great challenge," Montse said. She also explained how special it would be to play in the Olympics: "Playing in the Olympics is something unique. As a player I would have loved it and now life is giving me the opportunity to do it as a coach". 

Finally, she did not want to forget to give a mention to the youth categories of the Spanish national team. Montse believes that it is essential to continue supporting this talent in the new year: "I think we have to continue supporting the players coming through".
