National coach Montse Tomé took stock of what it means to be at the helm of the national team two days before the UEFA Women's Nations League match against Italy, explaining the importance of having the experience of having been a player, having had the necessary resources to choose her staff and the importance of being an ambitious team day in day out: "I'm very happy take on the challenge, leading these great players and I'm looking forward to continuing striving for success".

She says that having been a player has helped her to get closer to the squad, as having lived through the same experiences helps to better understand each situation: "I can speak from the experience of all those situations that I had lived through and it gives you a different dimension when it comes to relating to the player from a professional and knowledgeable point of view".

She also highlights that she has been able to put in place all the necessary resources to form her own staff: "I am very happy to have had the freedom to choose the coaching staff".

The coach also explained the style of play she intends to implement, with an emphasis on possession of the ball. But above all, she is looking to build a squad that pushes themselves day in day out: "I want us to be a team that is confident on the ball. Being competitive is a key part of our DNA. We have to be a successful and ambitious team that wants to be better than the previous one in every training session. That's what we try to transmit to them".

Finally, when asked about a dream for this team, she expressed her intention to enjoy every moment: "I'm not really one for dreaming, more one for enjoying things. I'm lucky to be where I want to be and to be able to dedicate myself to what I like because it's a unique opportunity and I'm happy to share it with the people I share it with".
