Montse Tomé in Malaga to support Women’s sports to mark International Women's Day
The national team coach took part in a forum organised by the Sports Journalists' Association of Malaga, with the focus on the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Spanish national football team, recent champions of the UEFA Nations League, will take part in the Olympic Games for the first time this summer in Paris. In light of this upcoming opportunity and In the context of International Women's Day, coach Montse Tomé participated in the forum "Communication, Equality and Sport" in the city of Malaga.
Tomé highlighted the value of celebrating "all days like women's days. We get up, we dream, we fight and we work to achieve our goals. Behind every sportswoman there is a story of overcoming obstacles that we must learn from".
Along with Cervezas Victoria, sponsor of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, and the Sports Journalists' Association of Malaga, Montse Tomé shared the line-up of speakers with the Olympic walker from Granada, María Pérez, her coach, also from Granada, Jacinto Garzón, and the swimmer from Malaga, María de Valdés, who will make her debut at the Games in Paris 2024, as well as Paloma de Rio, longtime TVE journalist and known as "voice of women's sport".
"I am proud to be the first female national football coach. I was born with a ball at my feet and I didn't have the facilities that girls have now. My family respected my love for football. It was always clear to me that my passion was football. Now, women's football is at a point where everyone sees what we do.
The coach shared a discussion forum with clubs, coaches and coaches an at event of nearly 200 people, all of whose eyes are firmly focused on next summer's Olympic Games in Paris.
All of these events supported by the Royal Spanish Football Federation are aimed at focusing public attention on the crucial role women play in both sports and wider society on this 8th of March, International Women's Day. On this 8th March, the façade of the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas is covered with the symbolic colours of International Women's Day with a banner featuring the World Cup and UEFA Nations League champions.
