Montse Tomé: "Our goal is to qualify for the Olympics"
The national manager, Montse Tomé, answered questions from the media at the José Villalonga Hall in the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas after announcing the call-up to face the UEFA Women's Nations League matches against Italy and Switzerland, which will take place in Salerno and Zurich on October 27 and 31.
Before addressing the journalists, she wanted to congratulate the Senior National Team for securing their qualification for the 2024 European Championship: "I wanted to congratulate the Senior National Football Team on their qualification for the 2024 European Championship. It's a success for Spanish football."
Regarding the current training camp, she explained that they are looking forward to "starting to train and compete with Italy and Switzerland in mind." In case of achieving these goals in the UEFA Women's Nations League, the national team would secure a ticket to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games: "The goal is to be at the Olympics. It's something that motivates us a lot. We hope to be there."
On another note, she talked about Anna Torrodà, one of the new additions to the list: "She joined us a while ago. She was with the U-23 team, and I watched her performance later. Her performance has been positive, and she's getting good minutes at Levante. She has the ability to play forward, enthusiasm, and potential. She's in a great moment."
Finally, the manager, who emphasized that "these 23 players are an example," analyzed their first opponent: "Italy is a competitive team defensively. They counterattack quickly and flood the area with many players. In the previous window, they managed to defeat Switzerland. They also gave Sweden problems. We know it's going to be competitive, that we have to give our all, and that it's going to be an intense match.
