Montse Tomé: "Spain deserved more"

"I believe this team deserved more. Spain deserved more. I feel we’ve worked for a long time to get to this moment," said Montse Tomé as she began her press conference from St. Jakob Park. She added: "That is sport, you have to know how to lose, and today, it was our turn in the penalty shootout."

Regarding the match itself, the coach concluded: "I think we were the better side, but football is a sport where the best team does not always win. The players all told me they were confident and we believed in them," she stressed when asked about the penalty takers.

"We all value the work we’ve put in during the Euros, we’ve made history."

Lastly, Montse had this to say about Spain’s opponents: "England have been right at their limit in several matches, but they’ve always able to bounce back. In the penalties, they were better."
