Montse Tomé: "We have the energy and desire to go for the win".

The national team coach and Jenni Hermoso addressed the media at the pre-match press conference organised by the COE (Spanish Olympic Committee).

On the eve of the bronze medal match between Spain and Germany at the Paris 2024 Olympic Football Tournament, Montse Tomé and Jenni Hermoso spoke to the media and shared their feelings regarding tomorrow’s game.

"I'm expecting a tough Germany, as they always are. They do their damage on the counter. They are a team who like to get a lot of players into the box. We know what Germany are like," commented Tomé after being asked about her expectations for tomorrow’s game. Jenni Hermoso added, "I think the games against the Germans are always great encounters. It will be like a final. We are lucky to be here to play for the bronze medal and we want to win it".

Regarding the mood in the dressing room, the national coach commented: "It's normal that after the last match and yesterday we have had to channel our emotions. It hurt us, but as of today the team is now fully focused on what we can do against Germany. We have energy and desire. We're going to go for the win. And Spain's captain confessed, "We were frustrated. We are coming to the business end of the tournament, not everyone has the privilege of playing for bronze. Winning bronze would be one of the most beautiful things that can happen to us".

Montse Tomé explained "it's the first time we've been in this competition, it was a new format for us. All the teams are in the same situation. My team will be ready for tomorrow" when asked about the players’ physical condition. And she added, "the way we work is to focus on recovery, we've been working in the gym. We use video analysis a lot for the technical-tactical aspects".

Jenni Hermoso explained that it hasn't been necessary for the veterans to encourage the young players because, "the new generations are already one step ahead because they've been here before. The mentality of the players is to keep winning, that's why defeat hurts. Today we are here to win a medal. The other day it was right that we felt sad, but today we're going for it with all our enthusiasm and desire," she said.
