Montse Tomé: ‘We work every day to be a better team’.

Montse Tomé sat down in front of the media after the friendly against Canada with a clear message. Spain were Spain and had had the chances to win the game: ‘We created a lot of chances to score. In the end the ball came to us late. We generated, we had a game, we kept the structure after going behind. If we weren't serious in our approach, we knew that they could be dangerous from transitions and they made some transitions. They scored a goal through a mistake. This is football. But we keep working to improve’.

The goal scored by Cristina Martín-Prieto gave the draw to the national team coached by Montse Tomé who had these words for the Benfica player: ‘Martín-Prieto was there last year. We are happy for her and for the team. When she came on, not only with the goal, she also created two chances. We had talked about the fact that she scores a lot of goals at her club and she has had her chance. We wanted to see her, both in training and now. She has come in and convinced us of her quality and the possibilities she offers’. 

But she is not the only one for whom the coach had words of praise, who also praised the role of Alba Redondo in the national team's forward line. She affirmed that both were quality in what we asked of them. Martín-Prieto has natural characteristics to go into space and generate space. She's a player with a nose for goal and a natural instinct to move in the box. She has a lot of desire and has come out with a lot of energy to help us’. One of the keys, said Montse, was in their work, our press started with them, with Alba and Martín-Prieto up front. They were part of the plan’. 

In the end it was a great night with ‘a wonderful atmosphere, with lots of spectators. But the intensity and quality on the pitch also made the atmosphere even better’. ‘We have started on our road to the European Championships with this match against Canada and now Italy are coming up next’. Montse Tomé is grateful for the support of the fans in every game: ‘We appreciate the support and we are working to be a better team every day’.
