Álvaro Morata is a synonym of goal, and his statistics with the Spanish national team are brilliant. The striker from Madrid has now scored 29 goals in his 59 matches with the Spanish national team, after his strike against Costa Rica in the World Cup opener and his superb goal against Germany. This figure makes him equal to Fernando Hierro, the fifth international with the most goals wearing the Spanish national team jersey. His goal took Spain ahead in the 62nd minute, although Germany reacted to draw during the last minutes of the match. However, that goal has a lot to do with him being named Man of the Match.

Morata's figures with the Spanish national team confirm his goalscoring prowess. He made his debut in March 2015, scoring Spain's only goal against Ukraine in the Euro 2016 qualifiers (his third match with the Spanish national team), and from then on he has been adding merits to his list. His game at Euro 2016 in France was outstanding. He scored three goals in the group stage to lead the Spanish national team to the Round of 16. In Qatar, he rounded off the match against Costa Rica with a left-footed strike just inside Keylor Navas' post, and in the match against Germany, he scored in the second half after a great pass from Jordi Alba. The team huddle to celebrate the goal perfectly sums up the spirit of unity in this national team.

Morata is now equal with Fernando Hierro, who took his tally to 29 goals. The podium is made up of Fernando Torres (38), Raúl González (44) and David Villa, the all-time top scorer with 59 goals. The Asturian is the Spanish player with the most goals in the history of World Cups with nine goals.

This is Morata's first World Cup and he is doing a great job. The Atlético de Madrid striker's goal in the decisive match against Sweden at La Cartuja in La Cartuja, which was celebrated with style, gave the Spanish national team a ticket to Qatar. He also sealed qualification recently for the UEFA Nations League final by scoring against Portugal in Braga, which makes him a goal scorer who is on fire in Qatar. So far, he has played two matches and scored two goals, not bad for a start. Don’t stop the party.
