Morocco, Portugal and Spain present the joint 2030 FIFA World CupTM Bid Book to FIFA
The joint bid by Morocco, Portugal and Spain to host the 2030 FIFA™ World Cup reached an important milestone on Monday with the official presentation of the Bid Book to FIFA officials at an event held today at the FIFA offices in Paris.
The official document was handed over to FIFA President Gianni Infantino by the presidents of the three football federations bidding for the event: Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation; Fernando Gomes, president of the Portuguese Football Federation; and Alvaro de Miguel, general secretary of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, on behalf of its president, Pedro Rocha.
With the ambition to build a tournament ‘for football, for the world, for tomorrow’, the bid is associated with the slogan YallaVamos, symbolising a proactive effort to advance the game on a global scale.
Extensive efforts have already been made throughout the campaign to promote this vision, and the bid has tens of thousands of followers on social media.
A successful bid would mean, for the first time in its 100-year history, the FIFA™ Men's World Cup would be held on two continents. With this milestone in mind, the bid emphasises building bridges between cultures, providing a welcoming environment for fans and visitors of all backgrounds, and leaving a true legacy in sustainability, innovation, investment and social impact.
The Bid Book today comprehensively details the bid vision and technical planning for the bid, including transport, accommodation and security arrangements, as well as describing the proposed venues and stadiums for the 2030 FIFA™ World Cup in the three countries.
The bid is supported by an impressive group of bid ambassadors, including football legends from each nation - Luis Figo, Andres Iniesta and Nourredine Naybet - and Emmanuel Adebayor, as well as leading players from the current men's and women's national teams: Cristiano Ronaldo, Achraf Hakimi, Dolores Silva, Ghizlane Chebbak, Alvaro Morata, Irene Paredes and Yassine Bounou.
The final decision on the hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be taken at a vote of the FIFA Congress on 11 December 2024.
On receiving the Bid Book for the joint bid of Morocco, Portugal and Spain, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: ‘Your three countries have already given so much to football, countries with a great passion for the game, great organisational skills and a shared vision of what football and its values should be. It is fantastic that you have united two continents in the dream of hosting the FIFA World Cup™. Football unites the world and you are proving it with this bid.
During the event in Paris, the leaders of the three bidding federations presented their vision for the tripartite bid.
Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, said: ‘We are proud and honoured to present a historic bid for our three countries, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. We are truly convinced that our bid will be an honour for today's football fans and a legacy for tomorrow's generations. We want the 2030 FIFA™ World Cup™ to unite people from all over the world and make all Africans proud.
Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation, said: ‘The Bid Book delivered here today anticipates an agenda for the future. It is a bid that includes environmental aspects as a structuring pillar of the event, a bid that combines the needs of the competition with the expectations of the FIFA World Cup™ host cities, and a bid that promotes inclusion and diversity for all. This is the basis on which our entire bid is built.
For his part, the General Secretary of the Spanish Federation, Alvaro de Miguel, added: ‘42 years ago, our country hosted its only FIFA World Cup to date: Spain 1982. Today, more than 40% of our population was not even born when that happened. The 2030 FIFA World Cup™ will unite the generations who lived through it and those who did not. It will also unite three countries and two continents, leaving an intergenerational, international and intercontinental legacy.
