Nacho Fernández: “There’s no limit to how far Women’s football can go, and I want to try to help”
His extensive experience in football (having worked with coaches like Bordalás and Marcelino García Toral, among others) earned him the call from Montse Tomé to begin his journey in women’s football, no less than with the national team. The Gijón native reveals that he “felt very attracted and excited by Montse’s call” and that he “will try to contribute as much as he can.”
He joins women’s football at a unique moment: “They are growing a lot, they’ve already grown a lot, and there’s still no end in sight. The girls are taking the national team to a very high level. I think it’s in a great place right now.” These are compelling reasons for him to become part of the national women’s football family, where he has already discovered one of the greatest strengths of these players: their quality. “I’ve really been struck by the quality they have. Without a doubt, they have tremendous quality. In these three training sessions, I’ve seen that with the ball, they are very, very good.”
He shares one of his main principles as a coach, “trying to make every training session feel like a football match, bringing it, within reason, to the highest intensity.”
This is Nacho Fernández. A football lover who “lives for and because of football” and “can’t imagine a day without watching a match.”
