Nacho: “it’s sure to be a good match, different and very special”

The Real Madrid centre-back and Spain international spoke to the media ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona this Sunday at 20:00 (Spanish peninsula time).

Real Madrid captain Nacho Fernández is going into his first big game as the captain of Real Madrid. After 22 years at the club, the Madrid centre-back has admitted that "I'm very excited to have the chance to lift my first trophy as captain, just like when I won my first trophy". On the chances of winning the title, Nacho said that "winning the first title of the season is a big deal. If we win, it will give us a morale boost and give us confidence for what's to come.

Nacho has full confidence in his team, who have now gone 20 consecutive games without defeat in all competitions: "Tomorrow we have another chance to win a title. We know the opponent we have in front of us and what happened last year, but I'm very confident about the road the team is on". Furthermore, on the demands of playing for Real Madrid, the number 6 acknowledged that "at this club you have to win every game. It´ll be a good match, a different and special one. Barça are a very strong team and it's going to be a difficult game".

The captain praised the strength of the Madrid team and their ability to overcome adversity in the form of injury: "We are a united dressing room and a very strong squad. This club shows that, whatever happens, the belief is always there. Tomorrow will be a very special and beautiful day".

On his personal situation, the Real Madrid captain said that he is "in a very good moment in my life and in my professional career. I'm doing very well and playing a lot. I feel very important in the squad and I feel that I'm improving year by year. I'm trying to enjoy the moment.

After the press conference, Real Madrid held their final training session ahead of tomorrow's big game at 20:00 (22:00 local Saudi time) at the Al-Nassr Football Club training facilities with all the players available training under the guise of Carlo Ancelotti.
