Navas, the oldest player in Spain’s Euro history

The Andalusian, at over 38 years of age, continues to perform at the very highest level with the national team and breaks Zubizarreta's all-time record.

Age, in the case of Jesús Navas, is simply a number, as the Andalusian is still in great shape and playing with child-like enthusiasm. This Saturday, in Düsseldorf against Albania, Navas became the oldest international to wear the national team shirt at a European Championships by taking his place in the starting lineup, another record for a footballer for the ages.

Until 24 June, the oldest Spain player to appear at a major international tournament had been Andoni Zubizarreta, who, at the 1998 World Cup in France, was 36 years and 244 days old in goal for Spain in a group stage match against Bulgaria.

Similarly, the holder of the record at a European Championships was Aritz Aduriz, who, at France 2016, played against Italy in the round of 16 at the age of 35 years and 137 days. Navas, a World Cup and European Championships winner with Spain, goes much further with his 38 years, seven months and two days. We have living history still playing for the national team.
