Official statement: a minute’s silence for the Moroccans affected by the earthquake

This weekend, a minute's silence will be observed before the Second Division matches, a gesture that will be repeated next weekend in the First Division matches.

In light of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Morocco last night and which, at the time of writing, has already left more than 1000 people dead, the Royal Federation and LALIGA wish to convey to the Moroccan people and their institutions the solidarity of the whole of Spanish football.

Our special relationship, for geographical, historical and sporting reasons, means that this tragedy resonated deeply with us.

For this reason, and as a gesture of remembrance in memory of the people who have lost their lives in this catastrophe, all Second Division matches played this week will be preceded by a minute's silence. Due to the break for international commitments, this minute's silence will be observed in the case of matches played in the Primera División next weekend (16-17 September).

The Royal Spanish Football Federation and LaLiga jointly invite our country’s clubs and fans to join in with this respectful minute's silence.
