Olga Carmona: "We have to fight to the death to defend the World Cup".
"When you're little you always dream of lifting a trophy of this stature", Olga Carmona answers with sincerity at the beginning of the interview. A few months have already passed and she being a world champion and everything that the national team has achieved has finally sunk in: "We have all landed and we believe we are world champions". What comes next is clear to her: "We have to take pride in this World Cup trophy and defend it to the death".
The national team player, scorer of that goal that had all Spaniards jumping with joy, recognises that this has been a great year for her, in which she is playing her best football so far: "I'm growing a lot on many levels. On a mental level I feel like a very mature player. The time I'm living in Madrid is helping me to grow as a footballer and also as a person."
She is still very young and still has many dreams to fulfil with the ball at her feet, but she is focused on taking it step by step to achieve the best with Spain and keep winning titles: "We have some very complicated games coming up against top level opponents, but we are ready for the first game against Italy. We're going to go out with a lot of desire to reach the semi-finals of the Nations League."
The fans are with her and especially Jorge. A boy who doesn't miss any of Olga's games: "He's a boy who comes to Valdebebas a lot, who loves me a lot, who has even asked me for a Christmas present. He gave me a present and I wanted to take a photo with him. I'm very grateful to Jorge and all the fans who came to cheer us on".
After analysing a wonderful season, the player wants the same in 2024, setting her sights on "a good performance on an individual level and achieving the greatest possible success". We have no doubt that this will be the case.
