Paredes, Samu and Pablo Barrios make their debuts with the national team in Tenerife

More than two dozen players have made their debuts for the Spanish national team since Luis de la Fuente has been in charge of the national team. The latest to join this prestigious list are Aitor Paredes, Samu Aghehowa and Pablo Barrios.

Born in Bilbao 24 years ago, Aitor Paredes has made his debut with the senior team, starting against Switzerland in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The defender was runner-up in competitions with the U21s in 2023 and has also played for the U19s and U18s. He has become the 20th new player to wear the Spanish national team shirt under De la Fuente. 

Samu Aghehowa, meanwhile, came on in the 46th minute in place of Álvaro Morata. The Olympic Champion (Paris 2024) came on after half-time at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López and fulfilled his dream of making his senior debut at the age of 20.

The last player to make his debut on Tenerife night was Pablo Barrios. The Atlético de Madrid player, who was called up after the match against Denmark, played his first minutes with the senior team after coming on for Pedri in the 79th minute. He became the 22nd player to make his debut for the national team and the last of the year to do so. 

Over this current international window, the last of 2024 with the final two UEFA Nations League group stage qualifiers, all the new players in the squad with the chance of making their debuts have done so.
