Pedri: “It’s an honour to play at home”
“For me, it’s an honour, and I’m sure it’s the same for Ayoze and Yeremy. It’s a very special match here at home. It’s been a long time since the national team has come here, and hopefully, we can give the fans something to celebrate. I’m really happy to be here,” Pedri González said at the start of the press conference.
“After winning a tournament like the Euros, it’s normal for opponents to show us more respect. We’re aware of our potential, and no matter who plays, we’ll try to perform at a high level, and that shows in our matches.”
When asked to rate the team’s year, the midfielder said he’d give Spain “a 9” because “there’s always room for improvement.”
“I’ve been asked for loads of tickets. I couldn’t give them to everyone I wanted to,” Pedri admitted with a laugh. “I had to ask for 45 tickets.” On the possibility of the team becoming number one in the FIFA rankings, he said, “If we can achieve that, it’s because we’ve worked for it and we deserve it.”
“I’ve found what works for me. I’m playing consistently, and I feel good,” he added.
When asked to give advice to young people, Pedri said, “Enjoy everything you do from a young age. School goes by quickly, and later you’ll look back on those moments. If they really want to pursue a sport, I’d advise them to work hard. Not everyone makes it, but working hard makes things easier.”
