The Olympic dream with which the national team began its journey to Paris 2024 is just one step away from becoming a glorious reality. Spain are faced another opportunity to make history at the Games, this time against the host country. After winning the silver medal in Sydney 2000 and three years ago in Tokyo, the Olympic team is looking to win the gold medal 32 years since their last success and thus follow on from the 'Cobi' generation that in Barcelona were crowned Olympic champions for the first time.

Two giants of footbsll again this summer, in this case with the most precious metal at stake, two teams that came to the Tournament in the group of favourites to climb to the top of the podium and that are going to compete to do so in the decisive match.

Santi Denia's team arrive after four wins in the five matches they have played so far and with Fermín López as top scorer with four goals in the Tournament. In the quarter-finals they beat Japan by three goals to nil (Fermín twice and Abel Ruiz) and last Monday they overcame Morocco in Marseille by two goals to one (Fermín and Juanlu) in a hostile atmosphere with 50,000 rival fans cheering their opponents on.

The team coached by Thierry Henry had a clean sweep of wins in the group stage, beating Argentina in the quarter-finals by the narrowest of margins, and in the semi-finals they earned a hard-fought ticket to the final in extra time against Egypt.

The only previous meeting between these two teams in the Men's Olympic Football Tournament was a 1-1 draw in the group stage at Atlanta 1996.
