The name of Fabián Ruiz is resonating forcefully around the 2024 European Championships and has opened the debate on whether Spanish players are receiving the credit their performances and quality deserves. The Andalusian midfielder reiterates his pride at being "Fabián and being Spanish", while also calling for recognition of "the great country we have".

He also has a special relationship with tomorrow´s opponent, having spent four years playing for SC Napoli, saying "it's always special to play against Italy. I'm very fond of the country and my former team-mates. I have very good friends there. They are the champions of the last European Championships and they do well in every tournament. I'm sure it will be a very difficult and tight match, because of how intense and aggressive they are, together with the touch Spalletti has given them. There are some great teams and anyone can get to the final.

The player from Palacios is living his dreams, explaining "it would be a very nice thing to win our fourth European Championships. We're working to make it possible, for 14 July to be an unforgettable day" and to do so "we're not thinking about other teams’ results, only about winning every games".

As such, winning is what the Spanish international is focusing on, without getting into debates about whose style is better, as "their style is similar to ours, although the coach insists on us being more vertical and finishing off our attacks".

In this sense, Fabián has only good words for the coach, emphasising that "Luis de la Fuente has always shown great confidence in my work, I am grateful to him and I hope that we will experience great things together".

This Euros is one of those potentially great experiences, even more so after the midfielder’s decisive start to the tournament, something not lost on the player, "scoring a goal for Spain is always special. I hope it won't be the last," he concluded in the press room at the Arena auf Schalke.
