The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán, wanted to be present during the inauguration of Gustavo Sáenz and his team at the head of the Rioja Football Federation. Louzán praised the history of football in La Rioja, with mentions of notable figures from the region, beginning with the National Coach and European Champion Luis de la Fuente. He delivered a call for future dialogue and collaboration: “The way forward is dialogue in Spanish football. We have done this at the Spanish Federation and we believe it is the right path. Spanish football, which is a great brand around the world, must work together towards the same goal. I believe we should leave no other legacy than the unity of Spanish football for the good of all,” said Louzán.
Surrounded by his team and representatives from all levels of football in La Rioja, the new president, Gustavo Sáenz, thanked everyone for their confidence in him to lead a new era: “My dedication is to and with the Rioja football family. Taking on the presidency of the Riojan Federation is an honour and a responsibility, but above all, an opportunity to work for our sport.”
Gustavo Sáenz, who will work alongside former footballer Raúl Ruiz as vice president, was elected by the Assembly of Riojan football as president of the Riojan Football Federation for the current Olympic cycle on 26 July.
