RFEF forges closer ties with Japan Football Association

Presidents Luis Rubiales and Kohzo Tashima agree on organising several projects for the strategic development of both entities.

The Spanish Football Association and the Japan Football Association keep working side by side. Both entities have a very close relationship and maximum cooperation. Luis Rubiales has visited the headquarters of the Asian federation in Tokyo on Monday, endorsing their agreement. Kohzo Tashima welcomed him in a meeting, where they strengthen the points of the agreement (memorandum of understanding) signed in 2020, still in pandemic times.

Spain and Japan are worldwide references and the relationship with the Asians helps the RFEF to preserve a favourable position on that continent. Throughout this period, Spain and Japan have played several friendly matches in different categories (women's teams, U-21, futsal...) and there have been several meetings to exchange knowledge in different areas: women's football, development of competitions, national teams, coaches, professionalization of refereeing, etc.

In Qatar, Luis Rubiales and Kohzo Tashima met to renew and set the guidelines for this new cycle. It was just before the match between the two countries to close the group stage of the World Cup. The idea is to continue in the same vein and even intensify this close collaboration in all the aforementioned areas. They also agreed to develop strategic planning, focusing on the training of coaches and referees and improving digitalisation. The organisation of projects together about marketing, the coaches' committee and women's football has also been planned for the upcoming months. Jorge Mowinckel, RFEF's Director of Strategy and International Relations, and Rubén Rivera, Marketing manager also attended the meeting.

Tashima insisted that the JFA's growth depends on interesting agreements such as the one sealed with the RFEF, one of the major international references. President Luis Rubiales is now strengthening his ties with the Japan Football Association after signing an agreement with the South Korea Football Association at the end of last week. This is the crowning touch to some very intense days of work in Asia.
