RFEF Presents Esther Romero with Replacement Copa de la Reina Trophies following the Valencia floods
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has responded to a social media appeal by former FC Barcelona player Esther Romero, a resident of Aldaia, who lost the trophies from her victories in the Copa de la Reina tournaments of 2011 and 2014 during the recent devastating storms that struck Valencia.
Esther Romero represents the face of the tragedy experienced by countless families in areas affected by the storms that devastated parts of Valencia and Castilla-La Mancha at the end of October.
The ex-player, who spent part of her football career at FC Barcelona, endured the disaster first hand: “In our case, we only lost our cars and some highly valuable personal items, such as the trophies I kept from my Copa de la Reina wins. We tried to recover them, but they were completely destroyed. It was heartbreaking to think about all the hard work that went into achieving them. In the end, it’s just something material, but still.”
Following a social media post by Esther Romero’s partner, the RFEF responded by presenting Esther with replicas of the trophies damaged in the storms.
Hola @rfef Os escribo en nombre de mi pareja @Romero6Esther que no usa mucho X. Hemos sido afectadas por la DANA de Valencia y ha perdido sus trofeos de la Copa de la Reina ganados con el @FCBfemeni 😓😭

After the social media appeal, the RFEF reached out to Esther Romero and, less than a month later, presented her with the replicas on 26 November at the draw for Last 16 of the Copa de la Reina Iberdrola, held at the Spanish Football City headquarters.
Before participating in the draw, the RFEF presented her with the replicas of the trophies she had won with FC Barcelona in 2011 and 2014. They were presented by her former teammate and friend, Leila Ouahabi, a Spanish national team player: “Now, FC Barcelona is a super team. Back then, we had to work so hard to win those titles, but the memories of my teammates remain. They’re still my friends and have shown me incredible support during this tragedy.”
The Royal Spanish Football Federation continues to collaborate with other organisations within the Spanish Football Crisis Committee (LaLiga, Liga F, AFE, FutPro, and regional federations in Valencia and Castilla-La Mancha) to assess the damage caused to football facilities and provide assistance for their reconstruction.
